The 1965 Fender catalog states that “There is no more convincing proof of the fine playing qualities of the Fender Jazzmaster than its rapid acceptance by guitarists throughout the world during the past few years.” Today, almost 50 years later, the Jazzmaster has emerged as one of our most requested guitars. Vintage Fender Jazzmasters continue to rise in popularity among players and collectors.
With a January 1965 neck date, this sunburst Jazzmaster retains the desirable pre-CBS features: clay dot position markers, unbound fingerboard and L-plate serial number. All of the components are factory original with untouched solder joints and original frets. The guitar is complete with the bridge cover, tremolo arm and original black hardshell case.
Rotating the body in the light, you will notice finish chips along the edges and indentations in the finish of the back. The back of the neck shows light play wear in the first position, and slight fingernail wear in the fretboard. The original frets show only trace wear and have plenty of life left. The setup has been dialed in with correct neck relief and the feel is excellent.
As the Fender catalog says: “This remarkable guitar incorporates all the well-known Fender developments including the ‘off-set’ body design, smooth tremolo action plus separate rhythm and lead tone circuits.” This Jazzmaster is every bit as innovative and rewarding to play today as it was in 1965.
