14 Fret National Duolian
The single cone Duolian resonator guitar was National’s top selling model. The National factory continuously refined production to make more playable and durable guitars. By the time this guitar was manufactured in 1935, the single cone design had taken its final form. Most obviously, the 14 fret neck gives better upper fret access. Rolled f holes stabilize the upper bout. The radiused fingerboard improves fingerstyle playing comfort. The stamped ribs strengthen the cone. Multi-piece neck construction prevents bowing and the solid headstock makes string changes smoother and faster. This 1935 Duolian exhibits every one of those improvements.
The original gold crinkle Duco finish shows wear and patina throughout the body. The National shield logo decal has partially flaked off the headstock and the finish on the back of the neck is worn smooth. The previous owner had new frets installed, along with a new biscuit from National Resophonic – those are the only changes. The resonator cone itself is still factory original and produces authentic bluesy tone. You’ll find the serial number stamped on the top edge of the headstock. Setup perfectly for both fingerstyle and slide with 12th fret action set to 3/32″ (low e) and 4/32″ (high E). Includes the pictured brown Geib Challenge case and vintage rope strap.
