Rare Gibson Built Flat Top Acoustic
An impossibly rare find, this 1949 Kalamazoo KG-1 is one of just 70 built by Gibson in early 1949. Stamped with Factory Order Number 1178-15. You’re probably familiar with Gibson’s pre-War Kalamazoo range, but the KG-1 is the only post-War Gibson flat top with the Kalamazoo logo and peaked headstock outline. The KG-1 is an all-mahogany, ladder braced flat top with a 1 11/16″ nut width and full, rounded neck profile.
With no cracks and no prior repairs, this particular KG-1 could be the finest one to surface yet. Even the bridge saddle has remained original. My luthier replaced the crumbled plastic tuner buttons on the original closed-back Klusons with Antique Acoustics replicas, and installed a set of Antique Acoustics replica bridge pins. The action is very comfortable, measuring 3/32″ on the high e and 4/32″ on the low E at the 12th fret, with room to lower the saddle. Ships in a new new hard case and includes the pictured vintage rope strap.
