Vintage 1950’s Gibson Flat Top Acoustic
Gibson added the innovative CF-100 model to their catalog some time in 1950. This relatively rare acoustic has the same body size as an LG-2 with a sharp Florentine cutaway and trapezoid Les Paul inlays (before the Les Paul existed). The X braced top is made from Sitka Spruce with Mahogany back and sides. The Gibson logo and headstock crown are inlaid in pearl, as you see on higher end models
The factory order batch dates to 1951, making this guitar one of the earliest CF-100 acoustics produced. The Factory Order Number shows up in the Gibson shipping ledger to confirm that this guitar shipped to B.A. Rose Music Company in Minneapolis on March 8, 1951.
Our luthier just completed an neck reset and the action is dialed in all the way up the neck. String height at the 12th fret measures 5/64″ on the high e string and 7/64″ on the low E string. The frets were dressed and a short back crack at the edge of the lower bout was repaired. The bridge, bridge plate, pickguard and Kluson tuners are all original and the interior bracing is intact. This CF-100 includes the original brown alligator case with Gibson logo plate plus the original tooled leather strap that loops around the headstock for use without a strap button. The completely unique look of this rare vintage Gibson acoustic gets attention, and it sounds fantastic for Blues and Country picking.
