Golden Era Gibson Solidbody Electric
This one owner Melody Maker was purchased at Amro Music in Memphis, Tennessee and given as a high school graduation gift to a young man named Billy in the class of 1961. The “Around The World In 80 Days” school dance took place on April 22, 1961. He tucked the program from his senior prom in the case pocket, along with the original strap and a box of Gibson strings. After playing for only a brief time, the Gibson went in the case where it remained in pristine, time capsule condition until the present day.
The 1960 Gibson Melody Maker features a single cutaway mahogany body with sunburst finish, an ink stamped serial number, early gold top reflector knobs, wraparound bridge and a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard. This model represents a great alternative to a Les Paul Junior. This particular Melody Maker is completely original including the original alligator case with Gibson badge. The condition is outstanding with only light fingernail wear in the first position and a few scattered chips and scratches keeping it from being perfect.
