Rare Supro Combo Amplifier
In 1967, the Supro Corsica amplifier retailed for a price of $149.50. The Supro catalog proudly describes Model No. S6622 as follows:
“Functional, attractive Reverb and Tremolo amplifier. Smartly styled control panel. Black vinyl cabinet covering. Special Design 12″ Jensen speaker. Separate volume and tone controls, plus reverb intensity and tremolo speed controls. 3 Instrument inputs. independent reverb and tremolo remote foot switch inputs. 6 Tubes – 4 dual purpose for 10 tube performance. Amber glow pilot light. Cabinet size 17 1/2″ long x 23″ high x 8 1/2″ deep. Weight 27lbs.”
Supro introduced their final and most distinctive cabinet design for their tube amplifiers some time in 1966, with black covering and turquoise faceplate. This Corsica is dripping with pure Sixties kitsch. The amplifier itself is low powered at 5 watts, and paired with a large cabinet and 12″ speaker.
No previous work had been done before our amp tech serviced this Supro, and his inspection showed a completely original amplifier with a full set of original RCA tubes. Maintenance work included repairing the reverb tank, adding a grounded 3 prong plug, and replacing a few caps and resistors that had drifted out of spec. Now everything works great, and it sounds as retro as it looks.
