Gibson Built Epiphone Olympic
Gibson built this Epiphone Olympic in their Kalamazoo factory right around the time The Beatles broke in America. This version of the Olympic is a solidbody electric guitar based on the Melody Maker with plenty of added Epiphone flair. Check out the slab mahogany body with unique outline and heavily rounded edge, the batwing headstock, full access neck joint, and the radio style control knobs. This one is all original but for the replacement handle on the original Maestro Vibrola unit.
Have you ever seen a case like this powder blue hardshell with the lucite handle? The handle is the same type used on Gibson amplifiers around this time, so it must be correct. The potentiometers are stamped 6428 for the 28th week of 1964. You can see the silver epsilon “e” still intact on the pickguard. This is an exceptionally clean guitar with just a little edge wear on the lower bout and a few scattered dings highlighted in the photos. Original frets with hardly any wear. The neck joint is rock solid with no movement, never broken or repaired.
