Classic Brownface-Era Overdrive Tone
In 1962 Fender updated the Deluxe model to the 6G3 circuit and brown tolex cabinet style. The “LA” stamped on the tube chart of this classic brownface Deluxe dates to January 1962. The amplifier just came back from some light maintenance work which included a three prong plug (brown color to match the original), some new capacitors, and a replica leather handle.
Vintage Sylvania, General Electronic and RCA tubes all tested strong. One tube is a more recent Fender replacement. The original Schumacher power and output transformers are stamped with late 1961 date codes. The speaker is a 12″ Jensen Special Design from the 6th week of 1966 that is not original to this amplifier but sounds great and uses the original wiring harness. It was reconed at South Florida Speaker Repair, one of the top speaker repair shops in the USA.
The tremolo effect works well and the amplifier includes a replica brown footswitch. The tone is outstanding with strong natural overdrive and incredible sustain. The crunch starts at low volumes and the sound is perfect for classic rock and blues.
