Classic Mahogany Solidbody Gibson
The Melody Maker D is the desirable two pickup version which in 1961 still used the classic single cutaway body shape. The result is quite similar to a Les Paul Special at a fraction of the price. Unlike most Gibson guitars, the Melody Maker maintained its full, rounded neck profile into 1961 so you can expect all the feel and playability of a late 1950’s Gibson solidbody. Other features include gold reflector knobs, wraparound bridge and a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard.
Very pleasing lacquer checking has developed over the original sunburst finish. The guitar is unbroken and intact with no significant repairs. The pickups and electronics on this double pickup model are original with potentiometer codes dating to the 20th week of 1961. The original lightweight wraptail is still on the guitar as well. Our luthier peformed a setup and replaced the damaged original nut with a replica nylon nut – everything else on the guitar is factory original including the frets.
Includes the original chipboard case, which has had some repairs to the seams with tape. Overall condition is excellent with only minor wear. If you are looking for a point of entry into the world of vintage guitars, this singlecut Melody Maker D represents outstanding value for money. Pairs perfectly with the 1961 Gibson GA-5T Skylark Tremolo available separately.
